Jennifer graduates this year... TJ is in the Navy. In my mind, I see you talking with both of them on the phone, coming over for holiday dinners... just... being you. We had another child a few years ago. She isn't you and doesn't replace you but she does fill a little bit of the hole. She reminds us so much of you -- things we had forgotten that you used to do.
I went by the cemetery the other day. I couldn't stop crying so had to leave. I still miss you.

Someday I will understand the compulsion to come back to this page. It hurts all over again when I do and yet I expose myself to the 'flames' of her death - permanent markers - testing my heat sensitivity again. Unerringly, I find I have to begin healing the burns again but the sores heal faster each time. Still, I don't know why I do it. Maybe I want to develop a callous to the pain which can only be gained by abrasion? Maybe it is self-inflicted punishment for not thinking of her continually anymore? Maybe a search for reassurance that the pain, which should be there, IS as I feel it less and less? Why do I think the loss of pain is such a bad thing? Do I fear that no pain would imply her meaning in my life is negated? Her death still seems unreal and the gradual disappearance of the aching agony I felt intensifies that feeling. I wonder why I thought that pain would be static..

Dear Steph...
One Christmas down, soon to be two. It is ironic that we approach our Christmas traditions with such trepidation now. There are so many good memories behind all our practices.. But there is always that last memory of you... All the good memories wind back to that last memory like a snake caught upon it's own tail, unable to let go. So.... we allow the dust of time to conceal the slate until some stray wind blows it away and reveals some crucial moment, some funny comment, some visual memory that makes me laugh.. The light in your hair, the brown of your eyes that beautiful mohogany, and then I am back to that last moment.
It does seem as though the holidays cause more air currents than normally occur. Perhaps it is God's way of preventing us from cluttering our houses with dust.
I know my Christmas preference but you are dancing with angels.. You are having such fun and how can I wish you away from there? Christmas here celebrated with the empty stocking we never hang up; the entrance of Christ to our world juxtaposed by the memory of your entrance to His.. I can't help but acknowledge the symbolic irony as the dust rises in clouds above these memories. Merry Christmas Steph - I love you.

We Share Your Sorrow
Friends are with you in your Sorrow,
To listen, pray, and stand-by;
Wishing you a brighter Tomorrow,
Some day we\'ll understand all reasons "why".
God has a reason or purpose for you,
It is all in our Master\'s Plan;
He will care for you all of life through,
As He leads with His Loving Hand.
You may not know nor understand,
Trust in God and rest assured in peace;
Your Loved One is in a Better Land,
Where Joy and Peace shall never cease.
Grieve when you must; Jesus wept, too,
Tears relieve pain within the heart;
It will not always be, as now, for you,
In Heaven, you shall never again part.
With tears in your eyes, you said "good-bye"
As God called your Loved One away;
Joy will come, when you meet on High,
To live there forever in Eternal Day.

The sorrow that I feel for you at this moment cannot be expressed. Please accept my most sincere sympathies for your loss and may you be strengthened by relying on God to get you through this time. It is comforting to know that he is there for us to lean on during times of distress Ps. 55:22. I have learned that those who have passed away are sleeping in death, 1Thes. 4:13, awaiting their resurrection to life on earth. This resurrection hope is laid out for us in Acts 24:15. A time will soon come when death will come to completion Isaiah 25:8 and be swallowed up forever. I anticipate this day and look forward to it all taking place by God\'s kingdom mentioned at Daniel 2:44. May you pray for this kingdom to come and look forward to being reunited with your loved one again by means of the resurrection hope.
