A private memorial service, officiated by Dr. George Howle, for Mrs. Joanne Stiefel Eubanks was held at the chapel of George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. Friends may call at the home of Frances & Lewis Whittle. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Johns United Methodist Church, Aiken, Epworth Children's Home, Columbia, Wesleyan College, Macon, GA, The Citadel, Charleston, SC or the University of SC to be used for educational Scholarships.
Mrs. Eubanks, 77, of Aiken, died Monday April 14, 2008 at Mattie C. Hall Care Center, Aiken.
A daughter of the late William Herbert and Elmira Edleman Stiefel, she was born on April 1, 1931 and was a life long resident of Aiken. A graduate of Wesleyan College, Macon, GA, Mrs. Eubanks taught at Leavelle McCampbell High School, Aiken Junior High School, Schofield Middle School and St. Angela Academy. She received a Masters in Education from the University of South Carolina and worked towards a doctorate while teaching at the College of Education.
She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Aiken and served as president of the United Methodist Women group and was a faithful member of the choir. She was a Sunday school teacher and taught the history of the Methodist Church. She also held offices on the district, county and state levels with United Methodist Women and served on various committees in the church.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Albert John Eubanks. She is survived by her sister, Frances Stiefel Whittle and her husband Lewis, Aiken and two nephews, Craig Whittle and Robert Whittle.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful people at Trinity Lutheran Home, Mattie C. Hall Care Center and Aiken Regional Medical Centers for the outstanding care and love they provided Joanne.
