Please share a memory of Joann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
AIKEN, SC-- Joann "Joey" Cramp Hill Peace, MFH Aiken Hounds died in Aiken, SC, Sunday, December 3rd, with her boots on, in the saddle, and on a great run behind her beloved hounds. She was a dedicated, enthusiastic and fearless horsewoman.
Born in Baltimore to William E. and Mildred (Stull) Hill, she and her sister, Kathy, grew up on a horse farm in (then-rural) Towson, MD. She attended St. Paul's School and University of Maryland. Fittingly her coming out party was held at the Green Spring Valley Hunt Club. As Towson became more suburban, the family moved to Maryland's Eastern Shore in 1969.
In 1977 she married James Harris Peace and soon after the wedding, they bought a farm in Chestertown, MD, where together they founded a nursery, Tideland Gardens, which they managed for forty years. They raised two sons; Jamie, of Fort Worth, TX; and Will, who now manages the nursery.
While an avid fox hunter, her true devotion was her family. She is survived by daughter-in-law Barbara, her husband Jamie, and their son Riker; and daughter-in-law Tara, her husband Will, and their two children Hill and Carson. She is also survived by her husband Jim Peace; her sister Kathleen Hill Hosford (Chip) of Sparks, MD; her brothers-in-law Chuck and Tom Peace (Merle) of Baltimore, MD; many extended family and friends; and her faithful labrador, Nack.
As Master of Fox Hounds (MFH) of Aiken Hounds and her love of animals, the family has requested memoriam in lieu of flowers: Aiken Hounds, 331 Fairfield Street SE, Aiken, SC 29801; Hitchcock Woods Foundation, PO Box 1702, Aiken, SC 29802; St Paul's Church, 7579 Sandy Bottom Road, Chestertown, MD 21620; and The Humane Society of Kent County, 10720 Augustine Herman Hwy, Chestertown, MD 21620.
