Memorial services for Dana Elizabeth Davis will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 1pm at Cedar Creek Church, 3001 Banks Mill Rd. Aiken, SC 29803 with Dr. George Howle, pastor of St. John's United Methodist Church officiating. The family will receive friends at the church, immediately after the service. Memorial donations may be directed to the National Association of Mental Illness, Colonial Place Three, 2107 Wilson Blvd. Suite 3042 Arlington, VA 22201-3042. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave SW Aiken is assisting the family. A daughter of the late Otis and Marion Davis, she was born in Richland, WA on September 16, 1951 and found her peace on May 4, 2007 in Aiken. Dana moved with her family to Aiken in 1952 and spent most of her life there. Dana graduated from Aiken High School and the University of South Carolina where she earned her Masters degree in Education. For over twenty five years, she had dedicated her life to the teaching of young men and women and being a fantastic mother. She taught in the English Department of Schofield Middle School in Aiken and was known for her encouraging words and caring commitment to her students. She had been involved in the creation of "Kaleidoscope", the Aiken HS literary publication. In 2002, she received the "Who's Who" award for excellence in teaching, having been nominated by students and colleagues alike. She was pre-deceased by her parents, for whom she cared for deeply. She leaves behind her daughters, Madalyn Mavris, Mt. Pleasant, SC and Christina Mavris, Aiken; a brother, Forrest "Frosty" Davis and his wife Karen, Atlanta, GA and Dr. Robert Davis and his wife Marilyn, Sugarland, TX. She is also survived by several nieces & nephews, friends and colleagues. Dana was known for her friendly spirit, her easy laugh and her caring nature. She will be missed by all who knew her.
