Funeral services for Mr. Raymond Lee Pope will be held Monday, January 17, 2005 at 2 PM at Foreman Memorial Baptist Church, New Ellenton, SC, with Pastor Jim Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Erica Hook, Airman First Class Casey Hook, Micah Hook, Ken Pope, Robert Pope, David Pope, & Bill Short. Members of the Berea Pals Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 16, 2005 from 6 until 8 PM at George Funeral Homes, Southside Chapel, 3175 Whiskey Rd., Aiken, SC. Mr. Pope, 78, of Aiken, SC, died Friday, evening, January 14, 2005 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Born in McDowell County, NC, a son of the late William McKinley and Lucy Hargus Pope, he had been a resident of Aiken County since 1955 where he was a very active member of Foreman Memorial Baptist Church and the Teamsters Local Union # 509. After his retirement from E.I. DuPont as a supervisor in 1986, he continued to participate the deer hunts at S.R.S. Mr. Pope enjoyed golfing, hunting,and fishing. A World War II veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years Janelle Short Pope, son, Mark Raymond Pope, Karin New Ellenton, SC; daughter, Wendy Pope Hook, Tim Aiken, SC; brothers, Clifford Pope, Pat Connelly Springs, NC, John Pope, Granite Falls, NC, Floyd Pope, Libby Hudson, NC, David Pope, Paula Lenoir, NC, Darrell Pope, Lorraine Lenoir, NC, and Cecil Pope, Corinne Granite Falls, NC; sisters, Hazel Childers, Carroll North Augusta, SC, Ruth Church, Granite Falls, NC, Irene Pope, June Granite Falls, NC, Ethelyne Hollar, Mack Dover, DE, and Ann Taylor, Roland Greensboro, MD; and grandchildren, Erica Hook, Airman First Class Casey Hook Meredith, Micah Hook, Ken Pope, & Robert Pope. In addition to his parents, a sister, Frances Harris J.W. also preceded him in death.
