Funeral services, with military honors for Harold F. ?Bob? Greene will take place on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 11am at the chapel of George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken, SC. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-8pm. Memorial donations may be made to CSRA Renal Services, 755 Medical Park Dr. Aiken, SC 29801. Due to severe allergies of a family member, flowers cannot be accepted at the funeral home.
Mr. Greene, 83, of Aiken, died Friday, December 7, 2007 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
A son of the late J. Raymond and Vergie Fox Greene, he was born May 24, 1924 in Sutton, WV and had lived in Philadelphia, PA before moving to Aiken in 1990.
Bob served in the United States Navy during World War II on the Battleship USS Washington, BB56 and the Aircraft Carrier USS Cape Gloucester, CVE109. While in the South Pacific, he had numerous encounters with Japanese warships and bombardments of Japanese held islands.
Bob was a member of Supplee Memorial United Presbyterian Church, Maple Glen, PA. He attended WV Institute of Technology, Montgomery, WV and graduated from Bliss Electrical Engineering School, Takoma Park, MD. Before retiring in 1990, Bob had been the National Sales Manager for Pringle Electrical Mfg. Co., Philadelphia, PA, where he had worked for 40 years. He was a life member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers.
In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by a sister; Jessie L. Greathouse and brother; John H. Greene.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years; Elsie L. Chapman Greene, Aiken, a son; James E. Greene, Pittsburgh, PA, two daughters; Nancy J. Glenn Vanderwende, Dover, DE and Janet L. Greene, Aiken, SC, a brother; Charles A. Greene, Huntsville, AL and a sister; Carole A. Martin, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
