Mrs. Nell Johnson Mace, 82, of Aiken, died Monday, March 14, 2011 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Born in Orangeburg, SC, Nell was the daughter of the late Fred and Margaret Johnson. She moved to Aiken in 1954 from Orangeburg. Nell was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church and was a retired librarian from Aiken High School. Known to many as Granny, she loved to garden, take care of her bird baths, cook for her family and neighbors and spend time with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by five sisters, and four brothers. She is survived by her daughter; Diane Duncan Rutherfurd, Aiken, a son; Ronnie Sharon Mace, Windsor, SC, eight grandchildren; Travis Mace, Josh Mace, Ryan Sheeley, Fresca Rutherfurd, Duncan Rutherfurd, Emmie Mace, Annie Mace and Conner Mace. She is also survived by three, great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by Mary Lou Hank and Gail Rodman who thought of her as a mother. Funeral services for Mrs. Mace will take place on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 5pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 4pm at Memorial Park, Orangeburg, SC.
