Obituary of Colleen Edna DeMeester

Colleen Edna DeMeester, 85, of Aiken, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at The Hills at Cumberland Village. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert DeMeester; her two daughters, Kathy Nelson and Kimberly Moyer and her four grandchildren, Tracey Ferguson, Loni Lewis, Kyle Nelson and Diana Nelson.
The only child of Lloyd and Katherine Ireland, Colleen was the tap dance star of Midvale, Utah, where she was born. At the age of ten, she moved with her extended Irish family when they made their way to San Bernadino, California. Colleen was introduced to her husband, Bob, through mutual friends. They were married when she was nineteen years old. Colleen was Miss Highland in the county fair beauty pageant and she was truly beautiful, inside and out.
The DeMeesters moved to San Diego in 1970, where Colleen acquired an associate degree in medical transcription from Mesa Junior College. She worked for the local hospital, and then began her own medical transcription business. In 1979, Colleen suffered from lung cancer and after surgery and treatment, survived for many more years.
She and Bob moved to Aiken in 2000 and just recently had celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Colleen was a loving mother and grandmother.
A celebration of her life was held at Cumberland Village. Memorial donations may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
