Mr. J.E. ?Tom? Lybrand, 78, husband of Jessie C. Lybrand, died, Sunday, March 7, 2004 at Mattie C. Hall Health Care. Graveside services will be held at Aiken Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at 2PM with Rev. Robert Snyder officiating. Friends may call at the residence. He was the son of the late Emanuel Lybrand and Cora Lee Collins, and was born in Aiken, SC. Mr. Lybrand was also predeceased by brothers, Ray Lybrand, Herman Lybrand, William Lybrand and a sister, Nellie Hallman. He was the owner of a service station on Park Avenue for many years. He was a life member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Aiken, where he served as the Treasurer during the 1950?s. Tom was an active member of the Aiken Jaycees, where he was the recipient of Key Man Award for four years. He also served as Chairman for Aiken High School, Class of 1942-1944, class reunions from 1978-1993. He served his country during WWII in the US Navy. Survivors include his wife, brother, Edward Lybrand, Fremont, CA, sisters, Mattie Lybrand Hallman, Aiken, Bessie Lowe, New Ellenton, Mary Hooper, Warrenville, SC and a number of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly and to whom he was affectionately known as Uncle Tom. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer?s Association, c/o Aiken Council on Aging, P.O. Box 3156, Aiken, SC 29802 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Drawer K, Aiken, SC 29802.
