AIKEN, SC- RICHARD JOSEPH "DOC" NOLAN, 79, of Banks Mill Rd., Aiken, SC, passed away Friday, January 23, 2015. Born January 2, 1936 in New York, Mr. Nolan was a son of the late Joseph Patrick Nolan and Evelyn Loraine Wheeler Nolan. Mr. Nolan proudly served his country, having served during the Vietnam War and retired from the United States Navy. After retiring from the navy in 1974, Mr. Nolan and his family moved to Aiken, South Carolina. He became an EMT Paramedic for Aiken County and then worked for many years with the Aiken County Sheriff's Detention Center where he retired. Mr. Nolan was a member of the Marine Corps. League and Solid Rock Baptist Church. He enjoyed square dancing and teaching children how to shoot as he was an avid marksman. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nolan was preceded in death by his wife, Lerline "Sam" Nolan. Survivors include a brother, Joseph Patrick Nolan; three children, Evelyn Lerline Mills, Teresa Nolan (Bubba) Foster, and Richard J. (Amy) Nolan II, all of Aiken, SC; seven grandchildren, Tracy (James) Densmore, April (Kenny) Seigler, Katelyn (Kirk) Jordan, Joey Kuntz, Bryon Foster, Dana Nolan, and Trey Nolan; eight great-grandchildren, Dakoda Kuntz, Erik Rodges, Samantha Seigler, Kenneth Seigler, Briana Jordan, Curt Jordan, Nate I Jordan, Nate II Jordan; a great-great-grandson, Hayden Jordan. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, January 26, 2015 at Solid Rock Baptist Church, 3079 Old Powderhouse Rd., Aiken, SC 29803. Pastor Steven Drawdy officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with full military honors. Friends may call this Sunday evening from 5 until 7 o'clock at George's Funeral Home.
