Funeral services for Mr. Julian G. Boyd will be held on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 11am with the Rev. Gary Fleetwood officiating. Pallbearers will be David Valentine, Mark Hall, Chris Medlin, Jeff Holly, Andy Duncan and Robbie Boyd. Interment will follow at the Boyd-Holley Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening, 7-9pm at GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. Memorial donations may be directed to Chime Bell Baptist Church, 1013 Chime Bell Church Rd. Aiken, SC 29803.
Mr. Boyd, 75, of Jackson, SC died Friday, July 8, 2011 at Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, GA.
A son of the late Lee G. Boyd and Kathryn Louise King Boyd, he was born in Augusta, GA and had lived in Charleston, SC before moving to Jackson in 1993. Julian served over twenty years in the US Navy as a corpsman. He then began working as a television reporter for WCBD, Channel 2 in Charleston. In 1978, he left TV to become a deputy sheriff with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office and then with the College of Charleston and MUSC. He retired in 1990.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Dale Miller Boyd, who died in 1998.
Mr. Boyd is survived by three sons, Julian M. Jana Boyd, Charlottesville, VA, James Lee Brenda Boyd, Hanahan, SC and Michael T. Boyd, Taylors, SC; a daughter, Carmen T. Terri Driggers, Summerville, SC; three sisters, Sherrie Larry Stewart, Aiken, SC, Linda Rustin and Gail Getty, Both of Brunswick, GA; and his special friend, Miriam Carrow, North Augusta, SC. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Keith Edington, Heather Edington, Matthew Boyd, Megan Boyd and Christina Boyd and one great grandson, Codey Edington.
