Mrs. Lucas, 81, of Aiken, died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Eden Gardens.
A daughter of the late Malcolm Beers and Norma Thomaseck Beers, she was born in Canton, OH and had lived in Olney, MD before moving to Aiken in 1991. She was a member of South Aiken Presbyterian Church.
Marilynn Lynn Lucas was truly distinguished by her inner accomplishments and her unique persona. No one was nicer, sweeter, or fairer. Unkind words were unknown to her. No matter how chaotic one's life was, it was a treat and comfort to visit "Mom", because the world around her was always loving, always pleasant. People characterized by external accomplishments are remembered for the things they create. The legacy of Lynn Lucas is the character she instilled upon others as a result of her own extraordinary character. Her touch is evident in her entire extended family. She lives on through them and their own lives, which were greatly influenced by just being around her. This and her beloved rose garden are the perfect epitaph. She will be missed.
Lynn is survived by her husband of almost 59 years, Elmer Lucas, Aiken, a daughter; Karen Patrick Burke, Aiken, three sons; Richard Kathy Lucas, Red Bank, NJ, Jeffrey Denise Lucas, West Lafayette, IN and Kenneth Nancy Lucas, Murieta, CA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
