Obituary of Theresa Klein Huffman
Please share a memory of Theresa to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Theresa Klein Huffman, resident of Aiken since 1952, died Monday October 3, 2005 at the Carriage Hills Plantation Nursing Center after a short illness. She was born in Akron, Ohio on December 25, 1919 to Elizabeth Hutflesz Klein and Jacob Klein both of whom immigrated to America from Hungary in 1909. They were Donau Schwaben or ethnic Germans who had resettled in Hungary from Baden-Württemberg after the expulsion of the Turks from Hungary in 1699. Theresa was reared in Homerville, Ohio after her mother fell ill with cancer and was urged to live in a cleaner rural environment. She then attended the public schools of Medina County and received her diploma from Medina High School in 1939. She met her future husband, Paul, in high school and they were married during WWII on Jan 12, 1944. She is survived by her two sons, Carl Haller Huffman and his wife, Marlene, of Aiken, and John Andrew Huffman and his wife Mary Lou of Columbia, SC and by John?s two children, James and Julia. Her sister, Irene Simpson b. 1915, of Akron, Ohio, also survives her.
Theresa Huffman loved musicals and performed with the Aiken Community Players during the 1960s. She was a member of St. John?s United Methodist Church and reared her sons to learn of and share the blessings of faith that is conferred by the grace of God.
She enjoyed her needlework, contract bridge, golf, and gardening as she lived a life of simple adornment. She and her husband were long time members of the Highland Park Country Club and so greatly enjoyed the friendships they made and kept there.
There is much more to say of a life well lived, but those who knew her will treasure her practical view of life and that it should be lived to the fullest.
Her children love and acknowledge her with these lines from Book 1 of Keats?s immortal poem Endymion.
?A thing of beauty is a joy forever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.?
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory are asked to make a donation to the building fund of St. John?s United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry St., NW, Aiken, SC 29801.
Graveside services will be held in Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville, SC, Monday, October 10, 2005 at 11 AM.
The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1: 20-21
