Please share a memory of Eugene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
AIKEN, SC -- Hard-working and good-natured Eugene "Gene" Emerson Gilmore passed away peacefully on December 20, 2017, while his beloved daughters, Angel and Jennifer, held his hand.
Born in Springfield, MO to Archie Maurice and Edith Pearl on March 29, 1946, Gene never met a dog he didn't like, loved working with numbers, and developed a passion early on for bowling.
After attending Central High School, he served in Vietnam and moved to Aiken in the '70s to help his brother run Tommy's TV.
Best known for his witticisms, kindness, and intelligence, Gene worked as an electronics technician for forty years at Alvanos Electronics, where he never met a stranger.
He spent his retirement watching Jeopardy and Price is Right, researching his genealogy, solving Crossword and Sudoku puzzles, laughing at his own Snapchat selfies, and adoring his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jean Watson Gilmore, his daughter Christina Marie Gilmore, his son Jesse Eugene Gilmore, and his granddaughter Madison Hecker.
He is survived by three children, D.C. Gilmore, Angel Hecker (Dwayne), Jennifer Ree Gilmore; and three beloved grandchildren Tristen Hecker, Hailey Gilmore, and Alayna Hecker.
Friends and family are invited to share their sweet and silly memories of Gene on Wednesday December 27, 2017 from 1-3 pm at George Funeral Home, 211 Park Ave SW Aiken, SC 29801 (803) 649-6234. A service will follow in the George Funeral Chapel at 3:00 PM.
