Obituary of Nancy F. Hellwig

Nancy F. Larbig Hellwig, 94, a resident of Aiken and formerly of Cooperstown, NY, entered into rest on April 17, 2014. A Celebration of Life services will be conducted on April 22nd at St. Johns United Methodist Church, officiated my Rev. Dr. Ray Litts at the two o'clock hour, under the care of GEORGE FUNERAL HOME. In addition to family members, Nancy's friends are invited to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Johns United Methodist Church in her name. Burial will take place at a later date in Cooperstown, N.Y. Nancy was born on April 12, 1920 in Newark, NJ, a daughter of the late Elisha and Jane Carr Fisher. Nancy grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Maplewood High School and later Penn Hall in Chambersburg, PA with a degree in Art. She attended Parson School of Art for an additional year. She met her first husband, Walter "Bud" Larbig on a blind date and they married on March 1, 1944. Nancy and Bud lived in both Packanack Lake and Ramsey, NY and then moved to Cooperstown, NY in 1969. After her father's death in 1957, Nancy & Bud followed in her parents footsteps and took over as Co-directors of Camps Chenango and Otsego children's camps on the east shore of Otsego Lake in Cooperstown during the summer until it closed in 1976. When the camps closed Nancy and Bud moved to Deltona, FL. After Bud's death in 1986, Nancy remained in Florida and worked at the First Presbyterian Church in Sanford, FL for 13 years as a secretary. Nancy met her second husband, Ludwig Hellwig, in 1991 and they married the same year. They lived in DeBary, FL and moved several times before setting in Aiken, SC. Nancy is survived by her husband, Ludwig Hellwig; daughters, Pamela Larbig of Alexandria, VA and Patricia Hazzard (Edward) of Cooperstown, NY; grandchildren, Melissa Hazzard of Newville, PA and Matthew Hazzard (Stephanie) of Cooperstown, NY; a great-grandson, Paxton G. Hazzard of Cooperstown, NY; a sisters-in-law, Carol Hellwig of Phoenix, AZ and Jane Hellwig of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Lynn E. Ritchkoff, Susan Tobey Bender, Richard P. Woodhouse, Donald Woodhouse, James Tobey and David Tobey as well as grandnieces and grandnephews and a step-niece. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Walter Larbig, sisters, Beatrice Ealer and Phyllis Tobey, brothers-in-law, George Ealer, Edward Tobey, Gus Hellwig, Randy Hellwig and Gil Hellwig; and nieces Jane Tobey Eden and Sara Jane Ealer.
