Obituary of Marie Clark
Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marie Folsom Clark, born March 19, 1920, in Minneapolis, Minn., died April 2 at Mattie C. Hall Healthcare Center where she had spent nearly the last eight years of her life. She never lost her playful spirit or sense of humor despite her increasingly diminished abilities and was comforted by daily visits from Hugh Clark, her husband of more than 70 years. Services will be private and under the care of GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, Aiken.
Marie grew up in Orono, Me., where her father was a plant pathology professor at the University of Maine. She met Hugh when they were graduate students at Cornell. She completed an M.S. in home economics there while Hugh was getting his Ph.D. In chemistry. After living briefly in Massachusetts, Virginia, and Illinois, she moved with Hugh to Aiken in 1953 where she was active in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, gardening clubs, and art classes. An avid crafts person, she leaves behind many beautiful examples of her work. She enjoyed travel, including nine tours throughout Europe and a trip to Africa. She was always happy to be at a beach, bobbing in the waves.
Survivors include her brother Robert Folsom of Austin, Texas; her sister Helen Parker of Bangor, Maine; her husband Hugh; her twin children Larry Clark of Erie, Pa., and Barbara Ucko of Washington, D.C. as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
