Funeral and interment services for Helen Marjorie Jacobson Sloan, M.D., will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at 4 PM at Powers Funeral Home, Creston, IA. Interment will follow in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Spaulding Township, IA. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 21, 2002 from 2:30 PM until the hour of service at the funeral home. A memorial service is also planned in Aiken, SC, and is to be announced. Dr. Sloan, 92, of Aiken, SC, died Thursday, afternoon, May 16, 2002 at Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center, Aiken, SC. Born in Spaulding, IA, she was a daughter of the late Peter Wesley Jacobson and the late Mary Elizabeth Graham Jacobson. A 1930 graduate of Cottey College, Nevada, MO, and a one of only three women in the 1936 graduating class at The University of Iowa School of Medicine, Dr. Sloan was a retired Psychiatrist, specializing in Child/Adolescent Psychiatry and later in Geriatrics. She had lived in Lynchburg, VA, where she was a member of St. John?s Episcopal Church, from 1955 until coming to Aiken, SC, in 1990. During her career, Dr. Sloan was Director of Lynchburg Mental Health Clinic from 1955 until 1977, at which time she came to Western State Hospital, Staunton, VA, where she was Chief of the Geriatric Unit until 1984, retiring at age 74. She was a Fellow of American Academy of Child Psychiatry and a member of PEO. Sons, Creighton Wesley Sloan, Aiken, SC, and Samuel Howard Sloan, New York, NY, and eight grandchildren survives Dr. Sloan.
