Mr. & Mrs. Dillon, & Family
I am truly sorry for your loss. I have had the honor of working with Mike in Riverside. From the first day of training when he sat in my vehicle, he carried himself with pride and honor. That showed he came from a loving respectful family. I thank you for that. Mike would tell me stories about Matthew and how proud he was that Matthew joined the USMC. I could tell by the look Mike had in his eyes that Matthew meant a lot to him. I never got the chance to meet Matthew, but with the time I spent with Mike and hearing the stories he told, I could tell Matthew was a special person. I will forever be honored to have had those memories shared with me. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family,

Sir,
Because I know the pain of loosing someone so cherished, it would be unreal for me to pray that the pain be taken away. Asking that is like asking you to forget and we know that will never happen, nor do we want it to happen. So we pray that as time passes there will be a peace and comfort that falls on you and your family as only He can do. We are praying for you and your family Sir. God Bless You.

When we heard of Mattâ??s death, it felt almost as if it were one of our own family members. The grief was just as palpable. The peculiar thing is that weâ??d never met Matt before, yet felt that we had since everyone spoke so fondly of him.
We too have lost loved ones and our love and support will always be here for you.

You are living with the times a parent of a member of the military fears, and you are doing it, and have done it, with more grace, faith and exemplary conduct than I have ever seen. Once one has a child in the military, all of the military become our children. I thank God that I got to know Matt and, especially, that I got to spend a few minutes with him last summer before he left. I'm thankful that Matt and Stuart were friends, and classmates, with shared values, goals, senses of duty, responsibility and military service. Matt, you will never be forgotten, especially that incredible smile. I love you. See you in Heaven.

I cannot imagine the grief your family is facing at this time...my husband was deployed this past September and needless to say I thought I was prepared for his leaving. Of course in reality I don\\\'t think you ever are. I even thought the experience of being a military brat growing up gave me a hidden power of some kind. I was so very moved by the article in the Augusta Chronicle about your loss. And the haunting of your eyes,seem to tell it all. What is the saying that the eyes are the windows of our souls? I have kept your family in my prayers and will continue to do so. I have looked up the poem \\\"if\\\" by Rudyard Kipling that your son wanted read at his funeral, how proud you and your wife must be of Matthew I think the message alone says alot about his character. May God bless you and give you peace.
Sincerely,

To Mr. & Mrs. Dillon & family:
I read over every line of text and every page having to do with the life & legacy of your son Matthew.I feel like I know him although we have never met. I have however met your son Mike and his lovely wife & their children. My fiance\\\' Lynda & I bought the Toyota 4 Runner from Mike that Matt sold to us.We will place a yellow ribbon on that vehicle, or something else to signify and celebrate your dear son\\\'s life.Personally I still feel it\\\'s Matt\\\'s truck- every time I step in & out of it I will think of him.I served under President Reagan in West Germany in the Armed Forces. I consider it a great privelege to have met Mike & his wife & kids. I am honored to be somewhat connected to Matt\\\'s life by this. I do not understand these hardships of life only to say that it is my faith In Jesus Christ that keeps my head up and looking forward to a place where there is no more wars! I came over to my fiance\\\'s house tonight and had a voice message from Mike sharing what had happened. Mike works with a friend of mine named Hal who is a great man of faith, I know he will be comforted by him. I see by reading the guest book that you have a great many people who care about you & your family. There are countless others like me that although we may or may not know you directly, we love you very much and are and will continue to lift you up in prayer.As someone said earlier the Lord truly is over everything the mountains & valleys of our lives! We love you & your family now and for always- Dave Sheley & Lynda Lemaster my fiance\\\'.

It saddens me to know that this hero and patriot was a member of my family that I never had the priviledge of knowing. In the days since his death, I have read so much about the kind of man he was, how many lives he touched and how selflessly he gave to our country. The more I read, the more I am amazed and grateful. It seems Matt lived more, accomplished more, and ultimately sacrificed more in his short 25 years than most people will do in a lifetime. I am honored to have served with Cpl Dillon. He was an intelligent, articulate, and courageous young man. Words can not describe my sorrow for the loss of this brave young leader of Marines. He is loved and deeply missed. My prayers go out to his family and friends.
"But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."

Seventeen years ago we lost our only son at age 25 in a flight training accident at Pensacola. He was a very proud Marine and we to this day remain proud of him and the sacrifice he made to insure our country's freedom. The days since Dec 11 have been numb for you if your experience was as mine but I want to assure you that your son's sacrifice is not lost. he will forever live as part of one of the greatest organizations to exist and I am sure you are proud of him and them. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy and empathy. The path you travel will bring you not only the pain of separation but also the awe of understanding that those who go before us wait on the other side. God Bless each of you.

I was blessed to have worked with, got to know, and love Matt as a fellow warrior during a period of 6 months prior to his deployment to IZ working on a developmental program. As a Marine Retired, father of a Marine,and uncle of a Marine, I hold Matt in the highest of esteem as he epitomized and embodied all the virtues of Honor, Courage, & Commitment - He was a Marine's Marine. Superb intelligence I kept talking to him about Commissioning Programs, street smart with a healthy does of commonsense, down to earth, and resolute in all activities/actions I mean all - always attacked with 110% - both work and play! He was an absolute pleasure to be around and to work with; his strength of character; his moral clock; his zest to live life to the fullest was both inspirational and humbling - and an everlasting credit to you all as his family - he clearly was from a solid foundation - a bedrock of character. He was absolutely respected by his peers, his juniors, and his superiors even ol Jarheads like me. I mourn his loss - my sympathy and condolences to you his family whom he loved, talked about, and respected - May God give you peace and rest, and extend His everlasting arms of love to lean on and provide comfort. Please know that you all are in my thoughts, but most importantly in my prayers - and the prayer of many others who came to know Matt through the activties we were involved in. May God Bless you, strengthen and comfort you.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Dillon,
With great respect for your son my heart goes out to you and your family. Having sons of my own, I can only imagine the hurt and pain you are going through. As I read Matt's guestbook, I realize he touched many in his short life. Matt dated my nieceAmber Jonesa couple of years ago. Amber came to Aiken, to live with us and go to school. I don't think Matt ever realized what a "God Sent" he was to us. Amber was at a very low point in her life, and Matt was there for her. I can remember thanking God for Matt Dillon. He helped her start enjoying life again. Your son had a way with people and could brighten anyone's day with that smile! I wanted you to know how your son had touched our lives and how he will always be remembered by my family. I will continue to thank God for these young men and women who are risking their lives for our freedon. God bless them all. Peace be to you and your family.

Dear Mr and Mrs. Dillon and family, I am not sure if you will remember me or not, but I am the mother of Monica Benson. Matt and Monica dated in high school and we shared a lot of laughs with your son. My heart is heavy and words could never begin to tell you how sorry we are to hear about Matt's passing. Monica and I have shared many telephone conversations the past few days about the times they had together, especially her being at your home with Matt and Monica had to have some of Mr. Dillons mashed potatoes...she says he could fix the greatest potatoes around. I loved and respected your son and I am thankful to God that we had the opportunity but mostly a "blessing" to have known Matt. I know Monica has been hurting these past few days and looking back on those wonderful times with Matt. I pray that God will supply you and your family with all the grace you can ever imagine thru this hurting times in your lives. May God Bless you always and know that we will keep you in our prayers.
With love and prayers,

Mr & Mrs Dillon and Family
I've known Matt for some time now through my daughter, Holly. They went to Middle School together and hung out together during High School and after High School years.
Matt, Holly and Jarah spent a great deal of time hanging around at the house.
No matter when I seen Matt Dillon, he had a smile on his face and those pretty lil' innocent eyes smile lit up like the 4th of July.
He always showed great manners and respect and I've always admired that, not to mention that he could make you laugh until you just couldn't laugh anymore. I don't think anyone that knows Matt will ever in a million years forget him, his memories will forever remain in many of our hearts.
If there is anything I can do, please contact me.
God Bless You All
