Funeral services for Mr. Valda "Joe" Smith will take place on Thursday, January 4, 2007, at 11am at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center 21 Park Ave. SW Aiken with Dr. C. Woody Catoe officiating. Pallbearers will be Frankie Thomas, Mark Catoe, Buddy Berry, Ronnie Smith, Reid James and Jimmy Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers will be the loving staff and residents of the Rudnick Home and Tri Development. The family will receive friends from 10am until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Graniteville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to Rudnick Home, C/O Tri Development 625 Chesterfield St. NW Aiken, SC 29801. Mr. Smith, 68, of Aiken, died Sunday, December 31, 2006, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. A son of the late Gary and Jewell Satcher Smith, he was a lifelong resident of Aiken. He loved music and as a young man, he enjoyed camping with his parents. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and had been a resident of Rudnick House for 15 years. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by a brother, Rev. Edward Smith. He is survived by his aunt and guardian, Mrs. Cleo Letbetter, Aiken; an aunt, Mrs. Norma Derrick, Columbia; two uncles, Rev. Earl Satcher, Warrenville and Mr. Jim Hamilton, Graniteville. He is also survived by three nephews and many cousins.
