Mrs. Elizabeth ?Lib? Chandler of Aiken, SC departed this life Thursday, February 10, 2005 at her residence, the Hitchcock House, after a long illness. Mrs. Chandler was only fifteen days away from her ninetieth birthday.
Born in West Union, SC, to the late James Cleveland and Mary Ann Frady, she was one of six children. She was a graduate of Walhalla High School, Walhalla, SC. Her parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years, Hosea ?H.C.? Chandler, daughter, Mary Anne Jackson, Aiken, SC; brother, James Cleveland Frady, Walhalla, SC; grandchildren, Beverly, Sandra, and Jonathan Jackson; and great-granddaughter, Chloe Elizabeth Jackson, all of Aiken, SC.
Mrs. Chandler, known to many as ?Granny Chandler?, was a former employee of Smith Drug Store, New Ellenton, SC, where she and her husband lived for many years. She was a longtime member and Sunday school teacher at Foreman Memorial Baptist Church, New Ellenton, SC. More recently, she had been a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church, Aiken, SC, where a Sunday school class was named in her honor to commemorate her more than fifty years of teaching Sunday school.
A faithful, committed Christian, Mrs. Chandler was well known and loved for her many acts of love, kindness, and generosity toward others. She was an inspiration to others and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 13, 2005 at 11 AM at Lighthouse Baptist Church, Hwy 1 N., Aiken, SC, with Pastor Marion F. Britton officiating. Entombment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be members of Lighthouse Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Elizabeth Chandler Sunday school class. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 12, 2005 from 6 until 8 PM at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC.
