Obituary of Carl Logan Sossman III
AIKEN, SC – Carl Logan Sossman III, age 80, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018.
Mr. Sossman was born December 13, 1937 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Carl Logan Sossman, Jr. and the late Charlotte Sossman. He proudly served his country as a Captain in the US Air Force in Strategic Air Command. Mr. Sossman received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Grove City College and his M.S. in Engineering from the University of Akron. He spent his career as an Engineer with Westinghouse and later with the Washington Group, retiring after 42 years. Mr. Sossman enjoyed playing and coaching soccer and was an avid golfer. He was devoted to his wife and family and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Eileen Sossman; a daughter, Kristen Sossman (Jeff Strnad), Peachtree City, GA; a son, Erik Logan Sossman (Meredith), West Chester, PA; four grandchildren, Leoghain Strnad, Dunnchadn Strnad, Makaria Sossman, and Carsten Sossman; and a sister, Charlotte Kremer.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the old historic St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Park Ave., with the Very Rev. Father Gregory Wilson as celebrant. Final prayers and commendation will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 2900 Washington Rd., McMurray, PA 15317 on March 10th at 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 28105 or the building fund at St. Mary’s, PO Box 438, Aiken, SC 29802.
