Funeral services for Mr. Paul Lamar Thorne will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at 3:30 PM at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC with Rev. Dr. W.C. Lowe officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:00 PM until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Thorne, 78, of New Ellenton, SC, died Saturday, afternoon, January 29, 2005 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Born in Chesnee, SC, a son of the late Boyd and Bessie Hollifield Thorne, he had been a resident of New Ellenton, SC since 1952. Mr. Thorne retired from E.I. DuPont in 1989 after thirty-six years of service where he had been a Fire Service Operator and later a Reproduction Operator. A World War II veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Betty Parris Thorne, sons, Jack Lamar Thorne, Lottie Aiken, SC and Larry Teal Thorne, Debbie New Ellenton, SC; daughters, Paulette Thorne Hallman, Wyman New Ellenton, SC and Jan Marie Thorne Perez, Gilbert New Ellenton, SC; brother, James Dorman Thorne, Spindale, NC; sisters, Merle Rupee, Spartanburg, SC and Doris Splawn, Chesnee, SC; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Memorials in memory of Mr. Thorne may be made to the American Heart Association, 1003 Hammond Rd., Aiken, SC 29803
