Mr. Howard J. Jennings, 82, of Aiken, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Funeral arrangements will be private and GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER is assisting the Jennings family.
A son of the late James Mearl Jennings and Bernice M. Christiansen Jennings, he was born in Tipton, Iowa. He grew up on Lynn Street and carried newspapers from 1942-1944 for the DesMoines Register and Tribune. He was employed after school as a "printer's devil" junior apprentice printer from 1945-1948. He then worked full time as a printer's apprentice learning the printing trade on the weekly newspaper, The Tipton Conservative until June of 1952.
Howard then did odd jobs and served in the Iowa National Guard until going into active military service in March of 1953. He served in support units for the US Army at Ft. Riley, Kansas and Ft. Sheridan, Illinois until his honorable discharge in March of 1955.
He attended Loyola University of Chicago, 1955-1958, earning a Bachelor's Degree in psychology. His employment with the IBM Corporation, in the Chicago, IL area began in March, 1958 and continued until his retirement on July 31, 1991.
Howard was married to Eleanor Frances Raveret on June 28, 1958, residing in Westchester, Illinois until 1992 when they moved to Aiken to be with their three children. He was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Arthur Eugene Jennings and and Bertha May Dotson Jennings and his maternal grandparents, Chris Christiansen and Larsena Ovesen Christiansen.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three, loving children, Kathryn Lynn Jennings Maddox, Jeffrey Mearl Jennings and Jeanne Marie Jennings Stewart and seven grandchildren.
