A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Jerome "Jerry" Lex will be celebrated by Fr. Ernest Hepner on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 10am at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken. Interment, with Military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Aiken. The family will receive friends at GEOREG FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken on Monday morning from 8:30-9:30am. Memorial donations mat be directed to the St. Mary Help of Christians Church Building Fund, PO Box 438 Aiken, SC 29802.
Mr. Lex, 86, of Aiken, died Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Anchor Health and Rehab, Aiken.
A son of the late Elmer J. Lex and Nora Mayer Lex, he was born and lived in West Allis, WI before moving to Aiken in 1999. He served in the US Navy during WW II on the PT 188. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he became an operating engineer with Local #139, Milwaukee, WI, where he worked for fifty years.
He was a former member of Mary Queen of Heaven Church in West Allis and a member of Knights of Columbus Council #524. He currently was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Church and Knights of Columbus Council #3684 in Aiken. Jerry was a tinkerer and was always looking for things to fix. To his family and many others, he was regarded as a true hero.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother and three sisters and his wife, Shirley, who died in 2008.
He is survived by a son, Tom Nancy Lex, Aiken; three daughters, Susan Randy Callies, Beaver Dam, WI, Barbara Gordon Iiams, Suffolk, VA and Mary Ellen Stephen Foster, Crystal Lake, IL and two sisters, Leonore Lex, Chicago, IL and Charlotte Hoel, Billingham, WA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
