Obituary of Irene Miss Mickey Olson

AIKEN, SC - After a long arduous struggle with diabetes and dementia, Irene J. "Miss Mickey" Olson passed away 11/10/2017.
A native of Jellico, TN; she was the oldest daughter of the late Earl L. Jones and Ida Thurman Jones. Mickey arrived in Aiken in 1950 when her father was employed in construction at the Savannah River Plant. After her family returned to Tennessee, she remained in Aiken. She was employed in the garment industry for many years with Regal MFG, S.R. Skinner & Aiken Industries.
Despite her limited formal education, but with great self-confidence, determination, and drive, she became the co-founder and plant manager of her namesake women's clothing company, Miss Mickey's Sportswear. She oversaw the operations of sewing plants in Aiken & Allendale. She also owned Big Discount Clothing in Aiken. After retirement, she could not be idle and returned to work as a cashier at Rose's Department Store for five years.
Left to cherish her memories and positive influence on their lives are her husband of 38 years, Reier "Ole" Olson; her daughther, Donna B. Campbell (Aaron); grandchildren, DeeDee Redd (Bryan), Dana S. Ergle (Robert), Aaron F. "AJ" Campbell, and Rebecca C. Jowers (Curtis); great-grandchildren, Tyler Cornwell, Chase Redd, Peyton Ergle, Preston Ergle, Paxton Ergle, Jayden Jowers, Taylor Jowers, Jocelyn Jowers; sisters, Kay Walker, Molly Duncan (Murrel), Jean Bagwell (Roy), Polly Townes (Paul); and her beloved dogs, Sam the Poodle and Punky the Mutt.
She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Sam, Herbert, and Jack Jones.
Friends may call on Monday evening from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at George Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in the George Funeral Chapel with Pastors Clint Smith and Terry Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Harry Rankin, Danny Porter, Steve Hicks, Terry Bagwell, AJ Campbell, and Robert Ergle.

The family would like to express a heartfelt appreciation to Trinity Hospice for the care given to Mickey during this final illness.
