Memorial services for Daniel Charles Larkin, III, will be held Wednesday January 21, 2009 at 2:00pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center 211 Park Avenue SW, Aiken. Rev. Dr. Fred Andrea will officiate and the family will receive friends from 1:00pm Wednesday until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the V Foundation, 106 Tower view Court, Cary, NC 27513, or the Aiken SPCA at 401 Wire Road, Aiken, SC 29801. Daniel Larkin was born Nov. 22, 1927 in Dayton, Ohio. He was an outstanding athlete winning eleven varsity letters in college, and an avid and excellent golfer his whole life. His mentors were Horton SmithThe First Master Champion at the Augusta National and Jimmy Burke Mr. Larkin was the son of the late. Daniel Charles Larkin, II and the late Lucy Larkin. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister Patricia Larkin. With the help of Strom Thurmond, Daniels father started the Crest Manufacturing Company in 1939 in Edgefield, SC. Then in 1971 Dan combined the offices in Detroit with the Manufacturing Company in Edgefield and moved his family. Through out the career of Daniel Larkin his innovations were the source of the company's rise. He was a board member and member of the Woodside Country Club, Hounds lake CC, Fripp Island Club, Pine Ridge CC, and the Green Boundary Club. He will be deeply missed by his wife Ruth Larkin, sons; Daniel Larkin and John Larkin and daughter Linda Smith., granddaughter Ashleigh, and by his dear friends Glenda Hart and Gary Owensby. His many friends and associates loved his sense of humor and generosity. He was devoted beyond measure to his wife and family.
