Funeral services for Mary Lou Porter will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 11am at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10am until the time of the service. Interment will be private for the family and will take place at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the Aiken SPCA, 401 Wire Rd. Aiken. SC 29801. Mrs. Porter, of Aiken, died on her 82nd birthday, Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. A daughter of the late Douglas William Profitt and Lois Margaret Coder Profitt, she was born in Bristow, OK and had lived in Yorba Linda, CA before moving to Aiken four years ago. She enjoyed decorating the numerous homes and yards as a Marine wife. The family moved frequently due to changes in duty assignments and then post retirement in Southern California, finally relocating to Aiken after her husband died. She was in her element rearing three children and being a loving wife. She loved to dance and loved the beat of an amazing variety of music, and when it struck her she spontaneously broke out into dance. She was an avid devotee of aerobics. Most of all she was a loving mother. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lt. Col. George A. Porter, USMC, ret.. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Porter, Aiken and Cindy Bill Whaley, Aiken; a son, Mark Laurie Porter, San Diego, CA; a brother, Douglas Ernst Grace Profitt, Santa Maria, CA; one granddaughter, Amy Louise Whaley and her beloved pets, Hannah Elizabeth and Frieda Faye Whaley.
