Obituary of Raymond Gilbert Anderson

A memorial service for Raymond Gilbert Anderson will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at 11am at George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. Donations, in his memory, may be directed to Hitchcock Hospice 690 Medical Park Drive Aiken, SC 29801. Mr. Anderson, 81, of Aiken, died Thursday, December 15 at his residence, under the care of Hitchcock Hospice. The only child of the late Henry and Anna Alm Anderson, he was born in Elizabeth, NJ. Ray served in the United Sates Navy during WW II and then went to work for the Exxon Corporation. He retired in 1986 as an engineer at the Bayway Refinery in NJ where he had worked for over thirty-eight years. While in NJ, he lived in Linden, Cranford and Spring Lake. He then moved to Hilton Head Island, SC where he lived from 1986 until 2000, when he moved to Aiken. He was a member of the Woodside Plantation Country Club, The Dolphin Head Golf Club, Hilton Head Island and the Fairway Mews Golf Club, Spring Lake, NJ. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his first wife, Frances Wadors Anderson, who died in 1977 and a son, Jeffery, who died in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ryan Anderson, Aiken; two daughters, Christine Steve Byrne, Fortescue, NJ and Judy Fred Berg, Pitman, NJ; four grandchildren, Jennifer John Coles, Emily Baccari, Stephanie Berg and Christine Berg. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Phoebe Coles, Molly Coles and Zane Coles.
