Obituary of Jessie C. Lybrand

Jessie Carpenter Lybrand died February 25, 2017 at the age of 88. A native of Graniteville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Jesse B. Carpenter and Ruby Owens Carpenter. As a young woman, she worked for the Clemson College Extension Service. She was one of the two original employees of the University of South Carolina-Aiken (USCA) when it was founded in 1962. She retired as the USCA Human Resources Director.
She was married in 1950 to James E. "Tom" Lybrand of Aiken, who predeceased her in 2004. She was also predeceased by a special aunt, Hazel O. Hare. She was formerly active in the Aiken Garden Club and enjoyed playing bridge, crossword puzzles, reading, sitting by her pool and taking many "girl trips" with her nieces Sheri and Janet. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Aiken.
Survivors include two special nieces, Sheri (Larry) DeWitt and Janet H. (Herb) Mattocks. She is also survived by a number of her predeceased husband's nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11AM, Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Aiken Memorial Gardens, under the care of GEORGE FUNERAL HOME. Honorary pallbearers will be Amanda Lott Blackmon, Lara Lott Moore, Misty Lott Cooper, Jeff DeWitt and Sarah DeWitt Holt. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Aiken.
