Dear Beth, Martha, and Amy,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss of your mom, who was a great lady for all of her life. She was a great mom to not only you guys, but also a mom figure that I think we all your friends looked up to and trusted. And she especially was alot of fun. My teen years would have many different memories without Al Payne! Such great stories she told, and she made all our activities into adventures.
How wonderful to think of her body at rest in Lone Mountain, my first taste of the state where I eventually lived for 25 years. I cherish my memories of that spring break trip with Beth, and to this day I'm grateful to your parents for giving us that wonderful experience.
I'd have loved to see you at the funeral and wish I had heard the news in time. I hope you know how much memories of her, your dad, and each of you carry on with all kinds of people who'd you might not imagine. Yep, those Payne girls are great. Love to you all.

Sweet Family,
We loved her and our lives were blessed beyond measure because she loved us.
Al gave Lex a doll when he was born. She told us that every baby, boy or girl, needed a baby doll. Lex did indeed love that doll baby. He drooled on it and babbled to it and eventually talked to it. We named the doll Alan Roger......get it....Al and Roger...and passed that doll down to our first grandchild and eventually on to Lex's first child.
You girls were blessed with a strong and loving Mother. We were blessed with a loving friend and mentor. The lessons she taught all of us will never be forgotten.
Sending love and heart healing hugs, Pitner and Bootsie

We want to extend our sincere condolences to all of the Payne family. Meeting Al in Wake Forest was a shear pleasure for me. Al always had a funny story to tell. I can see her now sitting in her chair sipping her sweet tea. The Owens family has been a special part of my life for many years, and you are in my prayers today.
With much love,

To Al's Special Family-
I was so saddened to read of your Mother's death...we go back almost 50 years and I cherish all the memories...I also will think kind thoughts of her when we put out our Christmas ornaments that we have collected over so many years. When I would visit her she always would start talking about her family that she so much loved. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I will miss seeing her at Aiken's Makin as she and I worked so hard in the first years to help make it the great show it is now.

Al “Ida Mae” Payne lived her life with grace and style that was immutable and entirely her own. With her good southern manners, charm, never-ending humor, and creativity, one never left her without feeling immeasurably better, light, and laughing. And well-fed!
Her unforgettable quality of “keeping it REAL” was the common denominator that connected her with all her friends. Because of this, she had far more friends than acquaintances. She never let anything slip under her radar.
She was my second mother, and my own mother’s closest friend. Her daughters are my sisters. Because of her generosity of sharing herself, my life has been richer in all ways. Our history spanned from my childhood to gray hair, so that’s a lifetime of brilliant memories.
Until we meet again, Al, my heart and spirit are with yours.
