AIKEN, SC- Karel Sue Marshall greeted her Lord on December 26, 2014 as a result of a heart attack. Karel (Carol with a "K") Sue Bartley was born in Chillicothe, OH on December 6, 1947, to Glen N. Bartley and Elsie A. Bartley who preceded her in death. She graduated from Chillicothe High School on June 6, 1965 and married Richard (Dick) Marshall on June 11, 1965. She took classes at Ohio State University of which she was a loyal fan to this day (Go Bucks). Karel is survived by her husband of 49 1/2 years Richard (Dick) Marshall, a daughter Melanie (Billy) Blake of Buford, GA, a son Kevin (Melanie) Marshall of Boone, NC, and two precious grandchildren that she adored Davey (11) & Nikki (7) Blake. Karel worked in various occupations including as the office manager of the small engineering company the Marshall's founded and as a pre-cert manager for Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Ohio. However, she will be remembered as a dedicated mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Due to her husband's extensive business travels, she coordinated, directed, and made the Marshall's house a home. Karel was baptized into her Lord in 1957 and was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ for the duration of her life. She was an inventive and dedicated Bible class teacher for years and always a supporter and encourager of others. Karel and her husband moved to Aiken, SC in January 2004 where she enjoyed playing golf with the "Niners" and her more recent LGA group, but her most enjoyable time was spent in the pool with her two grandchildren. She was an active supporter of, and on the board of The Children's Place in Aiken. She was looking forward to and planning her 50th wedding anniversary trip to Phoenix, AZ this coming June. She was very proud of the annual church widows/widowers dinner she co-sponsored every December. Each Christmas she made 30+ cheesecakes for family and friends, which will be remembered by all recipients. A memorial service will be conducted on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Aiken Church of Christ, 134 Rinehart Way, (near Aiken Elementary), Aiken, SC 29803 with minister Craig Middleton officiating. Her ashes will be placed on the headstone of Willie & Mary Marshall (parents of Richard) in Martinsburg, IN at a graveside ceremony at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to Children's Place Inc., 310 Barnwell Ave, NE, Aiken, SC 29801.
