Obituary of Virgie A. Payton

Funeral services for Virgie A. Payton, 96, of Aiken, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Lighthouse Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Eric Kincaid and Rev. Mike Catoe. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Ricky Willis, Alan Seigler, Caron Seigler, Frankie Goldman, Brian Miller and Chris Clark. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday at George Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at Lighthouse Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lighthouse Baptist Church Mission Fund. Mrs. Payton, widow of Grady Payton, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014. Born in Varnville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Joel and Sadie Lento Adkisson. Mrs. Payton graduated from Hawthorne High School in Hawthorne, Florida and Orange Memorial School of Nursing in Orlando, Florida. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse in the Aiken County Hospital until becoming the first Industrial Nurse at Owens-Corning Fiberglass in Aiken until retiring in 1975. She was a devoted member of Lighthouse Baptist Church where she was a member of Lib Chandler Sunday School Class. Surviving are her daughters, Pamela Plunkett of Aiken and Becki Payton of Surfside Beach, SC; sons, Richard A. Payton of Columbia, MD and Bobby Payton of Aiken; grandchildren, Kim Fralick, Clay Plunkett and Brandi Deas (Mark) all of Aiken; great-grandchildren, David Fralick, Bethany Fralick, Valerie Henderson, Chris Smith, Christopher Plunkett, Dakota Plunkett, Payton Clark, Chris Clark (CJ) and Zack Deas; a sister, Betty Wells of East Palatka, Florida; a brother, Ed Hedstrom (Joy) of East Palatka, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
