A memorial service for Mrs. Lyda C. Haynes will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2004 at Aiken?s First Baptist Church at 11:00am. Interment will be private for family members. George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel 211 Park Ave. SW, Aiken is assisting the family. Memorial donations may be directed to First Baptist Church, The American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. Mrs. Haynes, 84, of Aiken, died Sunday at her residence. A daughter of the late James Wilmer & Flossie Hodge Carroll, she was born in Zebulon, NC and had lived in Colorado prior to moving to Aiken in 1977. Mrs. Haynes graduated from Wakelon, NC High School and attended the Mary Elizabeth School of Nursing in Raleigh, NC. She was a homemaker, but was also known as an area model in Aiken, Augusta and Washington D.C. Locally, she was best known for her work with the former J.B. White Department Store in the late 1970?s and early 1980?s. Lyda was a member of First Baptist Church of Aiken where she had been active in the Sunday School Program, Flower Committee and Sanctuary Renovation Committee. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her brothers, Charles C. Carroll and James W. Carroll, Jr. and her husband, Colonel Ret. Thomas E. Haynes, 1997, a daughter, Judith Haynes Jackson, 1993. Mrs. Haynes is survived by a sister; Mrs. Evelyn Carey Moore, Aiken, two grandchildren; Amy Allen Burnham, Warrenville, SC and Mark Jackson, Columbia, SC and a great- granddaughter; Courtney Carol Burnham and several nieces and nephews.
