Obituary of George Edward Ferko

George Edward Ferko, 82 of Aiken SC, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio died April 15, 2013 at his home in Aiken.
Service will be held at 4pm on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at GEORGE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, AIKEN, with Rev. David B. Hunter, pastor of Resurrection Lutheran Church of Augusta, officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm prior to the service.
A visitation will be held at Vodrazka Funeral Home, of Independence, Ohio, Rt. 21 South of Rockside, 6505 Brecksville Road, Independence, Ohio on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 4-8 pm. A graveside service will be held at 11am Saturday, at Holy Cross Cemetery, 14609 Brook Park Road, Brook Park Cleveland Ohio, officiated by Father Joseph Repko, of St. Eugenes Byzantine Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Mary Semon Ferko and by his wife of 49 years, Patricia Jean Palguta Ferko, who died in 2002.
Having lived in Cleveland most of his life, George graduated from John Adams High School in 1950 and joined the US Army in 1950. Upon his return from military service, he was employed by Ohio Bell where he worked for 42 years until his retirement in 1992. George was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
George was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling and family gatherings. After his move to Aiken in 1996, George was a member of Cedar Creek Golf Club until recently. He was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken SC. George had attended Resurrection Lutheran Church in Augusta GA since 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Balk Ferko of Aiken, SC; daughters, Patrice Ann Ferko of Dalton, GA and Maureen Marie Ferko of Cleveland OH; sons, Timothy George Ferko of Cleveland OH, and Daniel John Ferko Elizabeth Kraus of Lexington Park, MD,; grandchildren Timothy John T.J. Ferko of Cleveland, OH, Matthew John Ferko of Lexington Park, MD., SSgt Richard Daniel Ferko, USAF of Washington, DC and Raelyn Teal of Huntington Beach, CA., a sister, Mary Helen Ferko of Villa St. Joseph, Cleveland, Ohio and a brother-in-law, Leonard Palguta Rebecca of Aiken; step children, Susan Balk, Lisa Manville, Tommy Garrett and Steven Garrett.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bimal Shah & his staff of Augusta GA, the Cardiology Unit at University Hospital, University Home Health Care, Trinity Hospice, Comfort Keepers and Rev. David Hunter for their dedicated care and kindness.
