Funeral services for Mr. Vincent Merlin Howell will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 3pm at Aiken Seventh-day Adventist Church. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 211 PARK AVE SW, AIKEN is assisting the family. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home. Mr. Howell, of Aiken, died Sunday, December 5, 2010 at University Hospital, Augusta.
Born in Hamilton, OH, he was the son of the late Cloyd and Wilda Parent Howell. He moved to Aiken in 1983 from Eaton, OH. He served his country in the Navy from June 5, 1958 to May 24, 1960 aboard the USS Randolph, CVA15. He was educated in the Eaton, OH School system and attended the University of Dayton, OH studying electrical engineering and quality control. He was awarded Certification of Quality Control Engineer in 1979. He worked for AVCO Manufacturing Corp from 1961 to 1974. Then he was employed with Emerson Electric Corp, where he retired from ASCO as Quality Control Manager in 1999.
Vincent was a member of the Aiken Seventh-day Adventist Church where he served as head Elder and other offices. He was founder and station manager of WASD-FM which the church operates. He loved photography, Corvettes and flying. He held a Commercial Pilots license. He enjoyed flying on pleasure trips and was an accomplished aerobatics pilot.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Howell. He is survived by his wife, Alice Peckinpugh Howell, son, Brian Howell, daughter, Angela Howell, both of Aiken, brother, Laurence Howell and his wife Denise, Tucson, AZ, sister, Karen Bradford, Tampa, FL, and sister-in-law, Patricia Callahan, Lakeworth, FL.
