John Richard Adkins
June 22, 1951 - August 24, 2006
John Adkins was born to Robert Fred and Wilma Adkins in Elk City, Oklahoma and passed away in Aiken, South Carolina.
John was a loving husband, father, brother, son and friend, who will be remembered for his generosity, infectious humor, limitless creativity, and adventurous spirit.
Video Services Director for the National Wild Turkey Federation since 2001, John began his television career in the early 1970s. He was one of the first to shoot and produce hunting shows and has been a part of the outdoor television industry since its inception. He began directing the NWTF?s Turkey Call television series in 1998; and several shows for the NWTF followed over the years.
Throughout the seventies, John directed live newscasts, live and taped shows and commercial production for Oklahoma City?s KWTV 9. In the 1980s he and his wife, Vikki, founded a film and video production company, Red Mountain Productions, Inc., in Aspen, Colorado, producing television programming, commercials, instructional videos and a series of ski shows shot on location around the world.
John was, at heart, a cowboy -- a motorcycle enthusiast, outdoorsman, conservationist and family man.
He is survived by his wife Vikki, their daughters Nicole and Emelia, and their menagerie, along with numerous family members and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at 5 p.m., Friday, September 1, at the NWTF Pavilion, 770 Augusta Road in Edgefield, S.C. Contributions may be made to Golden Harvest Food Bank, Young Life Ministries, or the National Wild Turkey Federation.
