Funeral services for Mr. Jimmy ?Red? Hankinson will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at 2 PM at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC, with Pastor Charlie Kelley officiating. Pallbearers will be Pat Ray, Earl Clinton, Daryl Garvin, Bobby Leopard, Ray Murphy, Allen McElroy, Jesse Harris, and Guy Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Summer and Freddie Smith. Interment will follow in Clearwater Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Aiken, SC. The family will receive friends Monday, February 2, 2004 from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home.
Mr. Hankinson, 68, of Aiken, SC, husband of the late Myrtle Gantt Hankinson, died Saturday, afternoon, January 31,2004 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Born in Windsor, SC, a son of the late Heyward and Gladys Sizemore Hankinson, Red had been a lifelong resident of Aiken County, SC, where he was a member of Clearwater Branch Baptist Church and retired after thirty-seven years of service as a Furnace Hall Operator with Owens-Corning. An avid golfer, he was a member of Bogeyville Golf Club. Red also enjoyed bowling and yard work.
A daughter, Marie Hankinson Bowick and her husband, James, Aiken, SC; sons, Jimmy Dale Hankinson and his wife, Gail, Windsor, SC, Wayne Hankinson and his wife, Wanda, Aiken, SC; and Anthony Hankinson, Aiken, SC; sisters, Corine Payton, Windsor, SC and Katie Belcher, New Ellenton, SC; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, and a lifelong friend, Wayne Goff, Saluda, SC, survive.
The family has requested that memorials be made to Marie Hankinson Bowick, 143 Combs Dr., Aiken, SC 29801, so that a college fund can be set up to further the grandchildren?s educations.
