Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Jean Schildberger Barden will be held Monday, September 13, 2004 at 10 AM at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC, with the Reverend Sandy McDonald officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, Aiken, SC. Serving as pallbearers be grandsons, Winston Steele, Jr., Ryan Steele, Clint Holton, Derrick Barden, Robert Galloway, and Austin Barden. A vigil service will be held Sunday, September 12, 2004 at 6 PM at the funeral home with the family receiving friends following the vigil service until 8 PM at the funeral home. Friends may also call the residence of Tim Barden, 109 Sabra Ave., NE, New Ellenton. Mrs. Barden, 71, of New Ellenton, SC, wife of the late Roland O. Barden, Sr., died Thursday, morning, September 9, 2004. Born in Fullerton, ND, a daughter of the late Fred and Ida Pavik Schildberger, she retired from Bellsouth as a an Engineer Consultant after thirty-two years of service. She attended St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and was a member of the Jaycees. Daughters, Debra Larry Holton, North Augusta, SC, Becky Winston Steele, Greer, SC, and Melanie Ed McFee Barden, Aiken, SC; sons, Roland Teresa Barden, Jr., Gloverville, SC, and Tim Penny Barden, New Ellenton, SC; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, survive. In addition to her parents and husband, a daughter, Wanda L. Barden, also preceded her in death. The family has asked that memorials in memory of Mrs. Barden be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Rd., Augusta, GA 30904.
