Funeral services for Mr. Robert Austin Riley will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at 1 PM at Memorial Baptist Church, Aiken, SC, with Pastor Jim Kirk officiating. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery, Trenton, SC. Pallbearers will be James Stephen Freeman Jr., Thomas Reid Rankin II, Austin William Riley, John Leland Riley, Joseph Austin Riley, and Patrick Austin Riley. Members of the Friday morning prayer breakfast and senior adult Sunday school class will be honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Monday, May 9, 2005 from 6 until 8 PM at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC.
Mr. Riley, 82, of Aiken, SC, died Saturday, afternoon, May 7, 2005 at his home.
Born in Trenton, SC, a son of the late Daniel Ouzts and Lona Ann Murphy Riley, he had been a resident of Aiken County, SC, since 1964. He retired as a sixth grade Social Studies and Math Teacher in 1987 from Kennedy Middle School. Mr. Riley was a very active member of Memorial Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and was involved in a prison ministry in Trenton, SC. For many years he was active in a men?s prayer breakfast on Friday mornings. A World War II veteran, he proudly served in the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Mrs. Ethel Mae Watts Riley, daughters, Laura Beth Riley Freeman and Shirley Ethel Riley Rankin, both of Oak Ridge, TN; sons, Joseph Austin Riley, Lewiston, ME and John Leland Riley, Aiken, SC. A daughter, Susan Mae Riley, preceded him in death in 1967.
