Funeral services for Mrs. Carole Jane "CJ" Carner Davis will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 2pm at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, Aiken with Rev. Ella Breckenridge and Rev. Joseph Whitehurst officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. There will be no calling hours at the George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Aiken. Memorial donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane Columbia, SC 29210 or to the charity of your choice.
Mrs. Davis, 76, of Aiken, died Wednesday September 24, 2008 at Eden Gardens Assisted Living following a short illness.
Carole Jane was born in Ithaca, NY to the late Lester D. and Betty J. Carner. She was educated in Lockport, NY, graduating from Lockport High School in 1949. She then attended Ohio Wesleyan University, where she was a member of Alpha XI Delta Sorority. She then attended Western Michigan University, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational therapy.
As the wife of Owen G. Davis, a human resources director for Scott Paper Company, Carole Jane lived in several cities in Northern and Southeastern states. During the early years, she was a den mother, Brownie leader, church choir member, women's club officer, and elementary school tutor, Director of Psychiatric Occupational Therapy and was involved in many community projects and activities. She moved from Savannah, GA to Aiken in 1997 and had been an active member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, Woodside Country Club, Aiken Newcomers Club, Town and Country Club, Aiken Symphony Guild and the Aiken Duplicate Bridge Club. For the past several years, she sang alto with the Masterworks Chorale at University of SC-Aiken.
She is survived by her loving husband; Owen G. Davis, Aiken, three sons; Dudley Owen Davis and his wife, Lisa, Mobile, AL, Braden Carner Davis and his wife, Debbie, Charles City, VA and Marshall Reed Davis and his wife, Michelle, Fairhope, AL, and a daughter; Darylann Thomas and her husband, Rodney, Athens, GA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren.
