Mr. Smith, 71, died Tuesday October 10, 2006 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Mr. Smith was born in Penns Grove, NJ. To the late Robert A. and Ruth Hern Smith. He graduated as a physical chemist from the University of Kansas. He then moved to Aiken. in 1962 to work for the Savannah River Laboratory at DuPont. In addition to his parents Mr. Smith was predeceased by his sister Judy S. Mahaffy, one niece and one nephew. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Sarah Lindley Smith, daughters Debbie S. Dargis and her husband Keith Dargis of Alpharetta, GA; Paula S. Thompson and her husband Joe Thompson of Columbia, MO; granddaughter Brittany Dargis, grandsons Jared Thompson, Logan Kent Thompson and Ty Thompson.
