Aiken, SC - Margaret Stuart Cook age 103 entered into rest at Cumberland on the Hill on April 18, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Fredrick Warren Cook. Her parents were John Albert Stuart and Margaret Pearl Burnham Stuart.
She was born on October 14, 1906 in Pulaski, Mississippi and graduated from the Mississippi College for Women in 1927 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Piano. For the first 10 years of marriage she resided in various locations in the U. S. due to her husband's work as a Topographic Engineer with the U. S. Geological Survey. In 1942 the couple moved to Alexandria, VA and resided there for 23 years. She worked for the U. S. Government for 22 years as a Librarian with the Office of Strategic Services, Department of State and Army Defense Intelligence Agency.
She and her husband retired to Aiken in 1965. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Aiken, Garden Makers Garden Club where she presided as President. She was an avid Bridge player playing at least once a week until her passing.
She is survived by her son Ted Harmon Cook, wife Ann Hisle Cook of Roswell, GA, granddaughters Elizabeth Ann Cook, of Atlanta, GA, Laura Cook Gabrielson of Roswell, GA, great-grand children James M. Gabrielson, Ann W. Gabrielson of Roswell, GA and a nephew James Burnham Stuart and wife Joyce of Jackson MS.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Margaret S. Cook will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday April 21, 2010 at the George Funeral Home and Cremation Center 211 Park Ave SW Aiken, SC. Interment will follow in the Aiken Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday April 20, 2010 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Aiken's First Baptist Church Music Program, P.O. Box 3157, Aiken, SC 29802 or to Regency Hospice, 105 Summerwood Way, Suite D, Aiken, SC 29803.
