Warren Winfred Long, 95, of New Ellenton, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2015.
Born September 5, 1919 in Portland, Oregon, he was a son of the late Warren and Olive Long. In 1942, Warren graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a degree in Chemical Engineering. After graduation, Warren worked for E.I. Dupont and Dumores. In 1951, he moved to Aiken to work at SRP. He was married to Lila Maxine Pine in February of 1947 until her death in May of 1975. Warren was married to Elaine Arrants in December of 1977 until her death in October of 2009. In 1981, Warren retired from Dupont, and he and Elaine traveled extensively across North America and throughout Europe. Warren was a long time and devoted member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with family and friends. In addition to his wives he was also preceded in death by a sister, Lois Long Moyers and a step-son, Don Arrants.
Survivors include three children, Warren Long, Jr. (Ann) of Centennial, CO, John Long (Elizabeth) of Winston Salem, NC and Margaret Windmuller (Roy) of Aiken; 2 step-children, Donna Creech (Billy) of Oriental, NC and Laurie Arrants (Josie Ballato) of Falls Church, VA; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Hatch (Matt) of Highlands Ranch, CO, David Long (Heidi) of Highlands Ranch, CO, Catherine Long of Winston Salem, NC, John Long of Winston Salem, NC and Rebecca Long of Beaufort, SC; 2 step-grandchildren, Eric Arrants and Sonja Arrants, both of Panama City, FL; 5 great-grandchildren, Katelyn Hatch, Christian Hatch, Madelyn Hatch, Dawson Long and Ethan Long; 2 step great-grandchildren, Hanna Arrant and Nicholas Arrants.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 pm Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, under the care of GEORGE FUNERAL HOME. The family will receive friends following the service at the Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Family Life Center, 600 Main Street, New Ellenton, SC 29809.
