Obituary of Ethel Mae Davis

Mrs. Ethel Mai Davis, 83, wife of the late Henry Oscar Davis, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Mattie C. Hall. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Yoho officiating. Visitation will be held today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Rocky Springs Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steven Smith, Terry Hutto, Wayne Harvley, Billy Cantwell, Christopher Wilson, Charles Wilson and Roger Godwin. Mrs. Davis was born in Pendergrass, Ga., to the late John and Sibbie Gillstrap. She moved to Aiken in 1950 from Mt. Rest, S.C., she was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, the WMU and the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class. Survivors include her daughters, Marie Snipes, Ridge Spring, Jeannette Slade, Windsor and Dot Goodwin, Aiken; son, Henry Davis, Greenwood; brother, John Gillstrap, Toccoa, Ga.; sisters, Fannie Maddox, Gay, Ga., Maggie Wall, Toccoa, Ga., Louise Whitlock, Warner Robins, Ga., Jo Cook Clarksville, Ga., and Carolyn Chappell, Clarksville, Ga.; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Bus Fund.
