Mr. Kenneth Nelson Durland, 73, of Aiken, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at his residence. Graveside funeral services, with Military Honors will take place on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 3pm at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church Cemetery, Aiken. The family will receive friends in the Cheetham Parlor at the Stevenson-McClelland Parish House at St. Thaddeus Church immediately after the service. GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, Aiken is assisting the family.
A son of the late Nelson W. Durland and Harriet Raymond Durland, he was born in Westbrookville, NY and had lived near Cape Kennedy, FL before moving to Aiken in 1990.
Ken served aboard the USS Independence, (CVA-62) in the US Navy during the late 1950's -early 1960's. He spent a short time owning a painting business and then went to work for the Bechtel Corporation as a quality Control Engineer, retiring from the Savannah River Site in 2005 after twenty-five years of service.
Known for his love of golf, he was also a great husband, father and friend.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sons, Gary N. Durland and Richard Durland.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Durland, Aiken; a daughter, Lorraine Warren, New York; three sisters, Lois M. Brennan, Myrtle Beach, SC, Donna J. Kruger, Campbell Hill, NY and Nona S. Lavorgna, Roscoe, NY; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
