Mrs. Reynolds, 85, of Aiken, entered into rest Thursday June 7, 2012 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers after a brief illness. A daughter of the late Ferris and Rose Tobia Antoon, she was born in El Dorado, Arkansas and had lived in Aiken since 1953.
Besides spending time with her family and friends, Cece was very active in the Aiken community. Her career in medical technology led to a life committed to community service, with interests in medicine, education, music and working with international students. She was instrumental in starting the Hopeland Gardens' Concert Series and was actively involved with this series for more than 35 years. Her love of music also cultivated her role as a founding member of the Aiken Choral Society. She served as a past president of the American Association of the University Women's AAUW Aiken Chapter where she was a three-time recipient of a named gift to the National Education Foundation . Cece was an advocate for the University of South Carolina Aiken in which she and fellow AAUW members helped established the University's first library. She also hosted several international students from Slovakia who came to know her as 'mama'. She worked to develop scholarship programs for these students who studied abroad. In 2008, she received one of USCA's highest honors, the Distinguished Citizen Award. Soon after, and international scholarship for students was named in her honor. Her love of her family and the Aiken Community will certainly live on.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harry John Reynolds; a daughter, Christine E. Doyon and a sister, Adelle Matacia.
She is survived by two daughters, Marie R. Satcher, Martinez, GA and Yvonne A. Reynolds, Columbia, SC; two sons, Michael J. Reynolds Jennifer, Vancouver, WA and Paul A. Reynolds Nancy, Alpharetta, GA; a sister, Theresa Antoon, Greenwood, MS and two brothers, Asper Antoon, Madison, MS and Ellis Antoon Joanne of Greenwood, MS. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Christopher Esdorn, Angela Taylor, William Duncan, Michael Reynolds, Andy Reynolds, Brianna Reynolds, Madison Reynolds, and David Reynolds and 4 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Cecelia A. Reynolds International Education Scholarship Fund at USC Aiken. Checks should be made payable to the Aiken Partnership and sent to the USC Aiken Advancement Office, 471 University Parkway, Aiken SC 29801.
