Obituary of Charles L. Dixon

Funeral services for Charles L. Dixon, 91, of Aiken, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the Chapel of GEORGE FUNERAL HOME. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Phillip Dunn. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dave Hayes, Nick Hayes, Kevin Lucas, Steve Warneke, Chuck Armour and Bill Finley. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Aikens Lions Club and the Millbrook Langford Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Millbrook Baptist Church. Mr. Dixon, widower of Margie H. Dixon and Carolyn Dixon, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016. Born in Barnwell County, he was a son of the late Lem and Corrine Turner Dixon. After serving in the US Army during WWII, Mr. Dixon came to Aiken to work for Life of Georgia. During his 40 plus year career, he retired as District Manager. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church. Mr. Dixon served in the Lions Club for over 50 years, receiving numerous awards, including the Lifetime Recognition. He also enjoyed fishing and water skiing. Survivors include his daughter, Sandy Hayes (David) of Aiken; grandsons, Dave Hayes (Suzanne) of Aiken and Nick Hayes (Brenda) of Hartstville; great-grandchildren, Charles, Katherine, Angela, Nikki and Hunter Hayes; sister-in-laws, Kitty Bodiford of Aiken, Naomi Dixon of Charleston and Betty Hartzog of Atlanta; and the extended family of his second wife, Carolyn Dixon.
