Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joseph Benedict Dawson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who left us on Thursday, October 31st, 2024, at the age of 80. Born in Manhattan, New York, on Friday, September 1st, 1944, Joseph transitioned from this life leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication.

Joseph resided in Beech Island, SC, where he built a warm and welcoming home with his loving wife of 60 years. His career as a Supervisor of the Blood Bank at Jamaica Hospital, Queens, NY, showcased his commitment to helping and healing those in need. Beyond his professional life, Joseph was known for his green thumb, often spending his free time indulging in gardening and landscaping, nurturing both plants and souls alike with a gentle heart and steady hands. Mr. Dawson was honored with numerous Science and Math Awards. He was also on the Dean's list throughout his college years.

Joseph is survived by his devoted wife, Ursula Mae Hamilton Dawson;  two cherished children, Yvonne Coleman of Beech Island and Anthony Dawson of Shirley, New York; a son-in-law, Myron Coleman of Beech Island; along with his dear sisters Janet Bonner of Upstate, NY, and Angela Jones of Bronx, NY. He also leaves behind two adored grandchildren, Anthony Dawson, Jr. and Anestia Dawson, and two cherished great-grandchildren, Hunter Madson and Quest Manson.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Richard and Daisy Dawson; his brothers, Albert Bonner, Edward Bonner, and a baby brother, Roger; and a sister, Denise Dawson.

Joseph's life and legacy will be honored on Sunday, November 17th, 2024,  at The Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803) 649-6234. The visitation is scheduled from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the funeral service at 2:00pm with Dr. Chris Masters officiating.  This gathering will provide a time for family, friends, and loved ones to reflect on Joseph's profound impact and to celebrate a life well-lived.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in his memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, an institution reflecting his lifelong dedication to aiding others.

Joseph's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will remain in the hearts of those who knew him, forever cherished and deeply missed.
