Funeral services for Mr. Wallace Thomas Brock, Sr. will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 2:30pm at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 600 Main St, SW, New Ellenton, SC, 29809 with Rev. Brian Gilmer officiating. Pallbearers will be Ricky Cannella, Wesley Herring, Kraig Holdman, Melvin Brock, Eric Crosby, Daniel Cannella, and Joseph Cannella. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1pm until the time of the service. Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Paul Family Life Center Building Fund or St. Paul Van Fund or to Regency Hospice, 105 Summerwood Way, Aiken, SC 29803. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave SW Aiken is assisting the family. Mr. Brock, 78, of New Ellenton, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at his residence. A son of the late Thomas Roy and Lillie Mae Barnett Brock, he was born in Buffalo, SC and moved to New Ellenton in 1954. Mr. Brock retired after thirty five years in 1989 as a service maintenance supervisor from Savannah River Site. He was a member of St Paul United Methodist Church for over fifty years, where he was a certified lay speaker, Sunday school teacher, past president of the Methodist Men, Board of Trustees, Council on Ministries, Pastor Parish Relations, Education Committee, Evangelism committee, Steward Ship Committee, Worship Committee, a church lay leader and was known as the "Candy Man". Wallace was also very active in the city of New Ellenton, where he served as the Mayor, Mayor Pro Temp, on the City Council, as the Police Commissioner, on the Zoning Commission. He also served as the Superintendent of Streets & Roads, Sanitation Dept, and the Fire Dept. Wallace was a 14th degree member of the Scottish Rites of Aiken, 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rites of Columbia , Past Master with the Masonic Lodge #389 in New Ellenton. Wallace proudly served his country in the Army. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brock was predeceased by his wife, Thelma Goins Brock, two brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by his son, Wallace Thomas "Tommy" Brock, Jr., New Ellenton; three daughters, Lona Brad Thompson, Augusta, GA, Teresa Bill Parchen, Aiken, SC and Jimsie Rick Crosby, Aiken; three brothers, Edwin "Buddy" Brock, New Ellenton, Donald Brock, Buffalo, SC; Travis "Hamp" Brock, Jonesville, SC. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, thirty seven great grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and many, many friends.
