Obituary of Austin Brooks Akins

Austin Brooks Akins, beloved son, brother, and uncle, passed away on Thursday, August 15th, 2024, in New Ellenton, SC at the age of 42. 

He was born on Tuesday, September 22nd, 1981, in Statesboro, GA. Austin's passion for fitness led him to a career as owner and operator of CrossFit 706 in Martinez, GA. He also bravely served his country as a US Army Ranger in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was a dedicated advocate for fitness and healthy nutrition. His favorite personal activities included extreme fitness challenges and ultra marathons. He cared little for the hype and hokum of the world, but relished the adventures of life, both physical and social. Personable, tolerant, friendly and influential, he was loved by many friends.

He is survived by his father, Larry Lavearn Akins of New Ellenton, SC, mother, Karen Lynn Hall of Aiken, his sister and brother-in-law, Amanda Lynn & Michael Kirkland of Aiken, his brother and sister-in-law, Dylan Talmadge & Jennifer Akins of New Ellenton, his nieces Zoey Jane Hall and Lauren Isabella Akins, and his nephew Nolan Lavearn Akins.

A funeral service will be held at St Paul United Methodist Church in New Ellenton, SC on Sunday, August 25th, 2024, at 2:00pm, officiated by Pastor Dale Reeves. 

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 2:00pm until 4:00pm at The Historic George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803) 649-6234. 

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 600 Main Street S., New Ellenton, SC 29809.
